Are you an empty nester? Thinking about retirement? Looking for resources and opportunities for aging parents? All ages are welcome to attend the 50+ Connections Expo, scheduled for Sunday, May 19th, 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, at the Vancouver Hilton Convention Center, 301 W 6th Street. This extraordinary event will give you the opportunity to encounter exciting services, ideas, and resources available for your active, healthy, independent lifestyle! Nowhere else in Vancouver can you find one place that provides such an array of business and non-profit agencies that have the information you need as a Vancouver/Portland resident over 50. “This is a wonderful event for individuals and families to gather information for their parents and grandparents, and still walk away with some beneficial information for themselves,” says Jeanné Phipps, Manager of the RSVP program. “We have lots of new activities and features this year such as our fashion shows featuring Jockey Person to Person at 12 pm and b.divine clothing boutique at 1:30. You can sit back, rest your feet, and also experience one of our mini-presentations at our “Living the Good Life” stage. Presentation topics include Creating Photo Memories (11:30), Stream Stewards (12:15), CPR for Seniors (1:00), Everything Old is New Again (1:45), Laughter Yoga (2:30), and The Taoist Tai Chi Form (3:00)! Be sure to plan your day in advance so you can take advantage of all our event’s features!”
Visitors are invited to enter to win one of five Grand Prize Trip Accommodations courtesy of The Variety Post, and visit over 120 exhibits featuring information and hands on activities about travel, recreation, health, nutrition, housing, finances, health resources, and more. Be sure to take advantage of free health screenings such as blood glucose screening, blood pressure checks, foot scans and foot/shoe analysis, posture exams, and acupuncture demonstrations. Don’t forget to stop by and say hello to Napoleon the Alpaca, and Rojo and Smokey the Llamas. They will be sure to make you smile!
Expo attendees can park at the Vancouver - Clark Parks & Recreation Marshall & Luepke Center (1009 E McLaughlin Blvd Vancouver, WA 98663) and utilize the free expo shuttle service between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. There is also limited free on-street parking, and metered parking at the Vancouvercenter Park 'n Go Garage located on 6th between Washington and Columbia.
This event is presented by the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and The Messenger. RSVP is a program of the Human Services Council.
