About the SWEAP Coalition
The Southwest Washington Elder Abuse Prevention (SWEAP) Coalition has expanded its mission to educate citizens, businesses and service agencies in Southwest Washington citizens on awareness, recognition, and prevention of vulnerable adult and elder abuse.
The board, made up of volunteer members, voted to change its name from Clark County Vulnerable Adult Task Force to the Southwest Washington Elder Abuse Prevention Coalition and expand its support to encompass all counties in SW Washington including Clark, Cowlitz, Wahkiakum, Skamania and Klickitat.
The SWEAP Coalition was formed over seven years ago as a grassroots effort to address the growing problem of vulnerable adult abuse and exploitation. Through the support and dedication of this group, the County Prosecutor's Office and others, the vision for an Elder Justice Center in Clark County was realized.
The Elder Justice Office opened in September 2011 and is located at the Clark County Public Prosecutors Office. The EJC office focuses on the discovery and prosecution of perpetrators of vulnerable adult and elder abuse. and is supported by representatives from Adult Protective Services, law enforcement officers, a deputy prosecuting attorney, a victim advocate, a program coordinator and community volunteers.
The SWEAP board will include representation from all counties served and will focus on community outreach and education and assisting victims of abuse and exploitation.
