VOLUNTEER DRIVER

PRIMARY FUNCTION

The Volunteer Transportation Driver is responsible for safely and courteously driving passengers to their trips. Our passengers have no other appropriate means of transportation. Drivers may use their own vehicle, or a vehicle owned by the Human Services Council.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provide safe and courteous trips for our passengers
  • Be punctual and dependable for rides you accept
  • Follow your driving schedule, maintain regular communication with Volunteers in Motion staff
  • Participate in initial training and periodic additional training
  • Abide by the Drivers Code of Conduct and all policies and procedures of HSC
  • Coordinate with the Volunteers in Motion (ViM) Manager to schedule trips and gather instructions for passenger trips
  • Escort passengers in and out of the vehicle
  • Provide light and friendly conversation with passengers
  • Inspect the vehicle before the start of any trips for the day
  • Responsible for letting ViM know of any issues that come up
  • Maintain client confidentiality
  • Turn in all necessary paperwork monthly, including reimbursement requests
  • Provide annual updates on vehicle insurance policy and registration if using your own vehicle

TRAINING

  • Participate in initial orientation session
  • Complete safety trainings including Defensive Driving and Child Safety Seat courses

Volunteer Driver Application

Qualifications:

  • Are at least 21 years of age
  • Have an excellent driving record
  • Have their own registered vehicle in good condition
  • Have auto insurance
  • Have a valid driver’s license
  • Complete a volunteer application & provide references
  • Pass a background check
  • Bilingual skills very helpful
  • Enjoy driving
  • Reliable, flexible, able to deal with traffic and multiple trips in a relaxed and efficient manner
